Alrighty, I want to a little experiment with you and I hope you’ll help me out. We all know there are a lot of sites out there that have a lot of social aspects that a lot of people use every day like Digg, Last.fm and Pownce. While these services are great on their own, there’s one thing I’ve noticed I find lacking about them. Each one lets you tag, favorite and post messages, but all of these things are segregated to each of these individual sites. Today however I found a site that offers a service that allows me to have everything I do on these other services show up on one central site and RSS feed. the interesting thing about this is that now that I know there’s a central place all these things will appear, I’m more inclined to use these social features of these sites. I’m adding favorite songs using Last.fm, digging more stories on Digg and just using these features more in general. The reason I do this is because a lot of my friends don’t have accounts with each of these services to see what I’m doing and let’s be honest, registering for 10 sites just to see what someone is doing takes a lot of time and pushes a person’s email out to people that they may not want having their email addresses. So my question is this, if you knew all these things were in a central place anyone that knows you can see them from would you, like myself use these features more?

If you used a service like this, would you be more inclined to use the social aspects of these sites?

Luke’s Aunt and Uncle weren’t as crazy as they seemed it looks like. Most geeks out there (or at least Star Wars nerds) will remember that Cliegg Lars and his wife Shmi - along with his son Owen and Owen’s wife Beru - maintained a moisture farm on Tatooine. Well, it looks like that is a bit more of a reality now.

Element Four, a group of Canadian eco-inventors, has invented a machine that is able to extract moisture from the air and turn it into drinkable water. This may sound like it could be a machine that wouldn’t work for most people in most homes, but it actually only uses the same amount of electricity as running 3 light bulbs. What if I live in the middle of a polluted city? No worries! The machine is able to purify even the nastiest city air into tasty, clean water.

The WaterMill is able to pull the moisture from the air, run it through various filters to clean out any dust, pollution and any other harmful particles and spit water out for you for merely three to four cents per liter. Who needs to pay $1.39 for that Aquafina when you can just suck it out of the air?

The WaterMill goes for about $1200, but if you think about how much money you may pay to filter the water you have now or buy the insanely expensive bottled water, this unit could easily pay for itself.

Moisture farming will never be the same again.

I hope none of you will mind me bringing up politics one last time. Yes World, it’s morning again in the United States. Today history was made as Barack Obama won the US Presidency and will become the first black president of our Nation. I can’t tell you how much concern, worry and fear for our future as a country I don’t have to feel anymore. His speech afterward almost made me break into tears.

And to prove this is history in the making, I’d like to remind you who the man breaking down in tears in this video is. This is Rev. Jesse Jackson. This man saw Martin Luther King Jr. assassinated in person. This man also ran for president in 1984 and again in 1988 and lost. You now see this man completely break down to see a black man elected as US President and showing that this is truly a free nation.

So… those of you that wondered what the hell this site is are about to get a history lesson. The reason I feel I need to do this is mostly because I noticed that the majority of all the posts I’m putting up seem to be Cool Stuff posts full of lulz vids. Seeing this, I need to reflect on what this site is and where I want to take it.

I’ve been wanting to do this for a while. For the moment I’m happy enough with this to release to the internets for general consumption. I’m not happy enough to say I’m done, so I’ll be updating these as I go along. But… finally… there is an official Consolenauts wallpaper in 4 different flavors and… an official PS3 theme. You can find these on the About page at the top of every Consolenauts page. Enjoy!

Pictures are starting to come in from the Mars Phoenix probe of what looks to be ice under the dirt that was blown away when the lander touched ground. The implications of this discovery are simply mind boggling and soon the lander will scoop a bit of that up and test to see what it really is. If that really is Frozen water, and it’s confirmed to be, consider Mars colonization time-tables to be pushed up quite a bit.

Source @ Gizmodo

Update: It looks as though the lander’s scoop doesn’t extend far enough to get a sample of that stuff, so it looks like we’ll need to spend another few billion for another mission to Mars.

Yes, I took the plunge and replaced the Dell 19″ LCD I’ve used for a little over 3 years and gave it to my Girlfriend. Its replacement is this beautiful display you see to the left, the Samsung 2493HM 24″ widescreen LCD. This thing is absolutely stunning, has a native resolution of 1920×1200 which is greater than 1080p HD. The only drawback on this thing is the buttons on the front of the display, they’re biometric sensor buttons so there aren’t physical buttons there and I would have preferred that. It’s really a pain because the buttons aren’t dimly back lit (which is odd, that would have made sense) so it’s hard to see where each button is. You’d really need a flashlight to see where the buttons are. Outside of that though I can’t express how sweet it is to be playing TF2 and WoW in that kind of resolution without a single lag.
